[The state of TN does Not recognize a cardboard sign (i.e. 'tag applied for')
as a temporary plate/tag.
However, a few TN County Clerk's Offices do issue a 30-day Tag for a $10 fee.]

======
OWNER's ESSAY..
I want to emphasize the cargo utility of this wagon;
but also having the rear visibility & maneuverality of a sedan.
With the each of the split rear seat backs folded down flat,
the rear cargo bay of a hatch back is converted to the capacity of a small pick-up truck. (Even a 5'-10" man can lie down flat inside, for camping.)

The angle & well-placement of the narrow, yet robust, window/corner posts, plus its panoramic use of tinted glass; allow driver to see unobstructed views out the rear & corners (reducing the blindspots, typical of most cross-overs & SUVs).

I also wanted to highlight the road-hugging capabilty of this car, due to its symmetrical AWD & low-slung center of gravity; but with ample ground-clearance.

From the shape & orientation of the flat Boxer, horz-opposed symmetrical & agitation-balanced 4 cyl motor;
to the even distribution of the power-train along the center axis & outward to each of the full-time engaged, 4 driven wheels, all w/
ABS anti-lock & Disc (vs rear Drum) brakes..
this simple vehicle is an example of a road machine, that can handle S-curves, slick surfaces, & snowy ground conditions.

With the added combination of..
independent 4-Wheel Swing-Arms,
McPherson-type Strut/Coil-Spring suspension,
traction control,
low centriod,
positve (min play) power-assisted steering, &
small Turning Radius of only 17.4 feet;
negiotiating tight or vigorous turns, is no problem.

Even the United States Postal Service specifically chose the '96 Subaru Legacy Wagon (but w/ Right-side Steering), over several other make & model vehicles, because of its capacity, capability, & reliability.

With an extra** set of 4 Alum Alloy Wheels & Tires (included), the owner can choose to have
'full size' Spares, or separate Snow Tires for the season.

[Full-time AWD cross-overs, esp Subarus, require that the front tire & its following rear tire, both revolve @ the the same speed, regardless of its left or right mirorred counterpart (which is accounted for by the differential).

i.e. If 1 tire needs to be replaced for any reason, on the Front driver's side; then the 1 tire on the Rear driver's side shud match the Circumference (Diameter & Tread Depth/Pattern) of the new/replacemt for that Front driver's side tire. So, if that Front driver's side tire replacement is new, then the Rear driver's side tire should also be be newish. But, if the rear tire removed, is stil in decent condition, it can be salvaged & put in reserve status by keeping it mounted on its initial wheel, or remounted on a the Extra wheel, provided; to act as a full-sz spare.]
- - - -
It's also relatively low maintentance, due to its simple, but smart design, & build quality; as well as my efforts to preserve it.
[I initally invested a lot of $ to restore or recondition this car, per most long-term maint, normally scheduled @ the 100K mi mark, when purchased from the orig owner @ ~142k mi; & as subsequently required.

i.e  I spent $4,600 ($4,200 + $400 tax) during purchase & another $4,773 within the next 42,000 mi, to fix anything that was needed or suggested by Subaru]***

I have a complete log of all orig owner's & my Maintenance & Oil/Filter changes, since it rolled-off dealer lot.
In addition, I have all my Receipts from paid maint & repairs.
I also recorded all Fuel-ups, showing gallons added, octane levels, ethanol %, & mileage.
The Maintenance & the Fuel Logs are avail upon request, to be included.

I've owned & operated Subaru, Toyota, & Ford.
I wud place Subaru's mfgd tolerances up there near Toyota & its reliability above our Ford F150.
This car has fewer blind-spots w/ more cargo space than our FWD Toyota Camry sedan;
& hugs the road better than it
& our RWD Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck.

For the first few years of my ownership, this Subaru was used mostly as a long-trip hauler or seasonal spare vehicle, or was nightly garage-kept when used as a daily commuter.
After my 1st 10 yrs, I no longer had garage access & it eventually became my primary city & hwy transporter.
In all cases, I've been almost exclusively the sole passenger, since ~2005
(another reason the original interior condition is as good as shown).
