IS THE PAINT ON YOUR VEHICLE DULL AND CHALKY? IF SO, YOUR VEHICLE MAY HAVE SINGLE STAGE PAINT. There are two types of vehicle paintwork, clear coated and single stage. Clear coated has a lacquar that protects the paintwork underneath. Single stage paintwork has no protective lacquar layer and so the paintwork is open to abuse from the elements. If a car has single stage paint and is not cared for properly it can begin to fade and oxidize. UV rays from the sun affect the pigment in the paint and it can begin to fade. Rainwater and surface contaminants can attack the surface causing it to oxidize. This usually shows up as a chalky whitish looking color on the surface of the paint, even if the color was originally some other color besides white. Just to note, white paint will oxidize too but because it's the same color as the chalky white oxidation you have to look carefully to see it. Oxidized white paint can just look dull when it in fact is oxidized. If the oxidation isn't too extreme it will merely be a problem that is easily fixed by simply abrading the surface to remove the oxidized or dead paint off the surface, which will expose a fresh base which you can then polish to a high gloss. IDENTIFYING A SINGLE STAGE PAINT: Apply auto wax to a rag and rub it on the vehicle as if you were waxing. When the wax has dried, buff it off. If there is color from the vehicle on the rag, it has single stage paint. Below are some before and after photos of vehicles with single stage paint that we have brought back to life.
